解释：天文学家。福建闽侯人。1919年入北京清华学堂，1923年赴美国留学，1929年获博士学位。同年回国，历任中央大学教授，中央研究院天文研究所所长，中科院紫金山天文台台长，中国天文学会会长、理事长。1955年当选为中科院数学物理学部委员。1928年发现第1125号小行星，命名为中华”。长期从事对行星、小行星和彗星的观测和研究，并指导对人造卫星轨道研究。著有《天文学论丛》和《人造卫星的轨道问题》等。
